Elizabeth & Kyle’s Brooklyn apt. - The had a “Pandemic Wedding” at home, in their pretty apt.

They’ve already moved to Seattle to be near their families, but they say they will miss this place, especially the tin ceilings.

image

Elizabeth says, “Our stuff is mostly hand-me-downs (like our sofa) and less expensive things that I found on Craigslist or Target. I found our French dining table on Craigslist. (I have luck when I search for specific keywords — ‘French antique dining table’ versus just ‘table.’) We have a mix of old, new, fancy, not-so-fancy. Then we splurged on pillows and window treatments to make the rooms feel special.”

Their kitchen was redone in white by the landlord.

image

Her grandmother taught her to needlepoint when she was a young girl, and she finds it relaxing and fun to make things she really wants.

image

When they moved in, the living room had an ugly ceiling fan — it was the major focal point. So, she swapped it out with an antique chandelier she found, which changed the feel of the whole room. Wow, I would certainly miss that fireplace.

This gorgeous dresser was found on Craigslist.

They have a little desk set up b/c they sometimes work from home.

The bedroom is so serene and I love the French doors.

Nic and Dave’s sweet little home is full of wonderfully thrifted furnishings and treasures from their travels. It’s wealth of savvy decorating ideas.

image

The kitchen is tiny and they don’t have room for all their plates and dishes so they have an old German medicine cabinet just outside the kitchen that does the job perfectly.

image

The table was stolen from Nic’s mum, the Tulip chairs were salvaged from the trash, so they sanded them down and had them repainted by a car painter. The other chairs were Dave’s parents. They reupholstered them and added cushions.

image

The cupboard was also Nic’s mum’s. She’s planning on painting it and lining the panels with wallpaper.

image

A new kitchen is next on the agenda, mainly driven by the fact that they’re longing for a dishwasher.

image

The totem is from Bali. The stool was made for Nic by a friend for her 16th birthday.

image
image

The ‘bon’ sign is from Paris. The painting is one of Nic’s own – a present to Dave during a bout of unemployment. Nic had been on the hunt for a coffee table for 2 years when she found this one. It’s a barn table from Belgium that she found in a shop.

image

Dave was nursed in that chair as a baby, and they had it reupholstered. The bookcase is an Ikea special. The candlestick was nabbed from a friends wedding (with permission!). The Amish stars were bought at Green Flea Market in New York.

image

The mirror frame was bought in Bali and glazed in the UK. It rests on a bamboo console. Nic got tired of it being natural so painted it flamingo coral. Art Deco cabinet was bought from a junk shop and painted and distressed by them.

image
image

The wall light is a cherry blossom branch. The wardrobe was picked up from a London junk shop. The console table was rescued from a nursing home.

image
image

The paneled wooden wall in the guest room is what made them want to buy the house. The day bed was an eBay find when eBay was still cheap. Nic bought it as a student.

Another example of how beautiful a thrifted home can be.

Tips for Self-Acceptance

onlinecounsellingcollege

1. Recognize that there is no-one who is ‘normal’. Love who you are and accept your differences.

2. Don’t think of your differences as inferiorities. They are all part of the package that make you “you”. And the world would be boring if we all were just the same.

3. Refuse to give up on yourself or your dreams. The biggest mistake you could ever make is to not try something in case it goes wrong.

4. Respect your own opinions, your viewpoints and beliefs. If people don’t like then, they can just get over it! Trust your heart and intuition – don’t just listen to others.

5. Don’t be afraid to express, and be, yourself. Develop your own style and your own creative flair.

6. Don’t listen to anyone who puts you down. It’s likely that they’re suffering from low self-esteem – hence they’re trying to feel better by criticising you.

7. Hang out with people who love you just for “you” – and who know that they have failings and hang ups, too.

8. Smile and be happy – you deserve to enjoy life. And remember life’s a journey; it’s not a race.

Photographer Pan’s light, bright, plant-filled apt. is so breezy and pretty.

When she is on the couch, Pan likes to admire the lines and colors of the tapestry on her wall, just above the TV.

image

Outside the living room is a narrow terrace where Pan can grow plants.

The kitchen ended up being the last room to be looked at with more attention in terms of visuals, but because it was open to the living room, the organization, the plants and the decorative objects reflect the same care that is present throughout the house.

My favorite room in her apt. has got to be the bedroom. It’s absolutely delightful.

image
image

It certainly is large enough to have a full size desk with room to spare.

Too cute.
